Flowers bring human a sensual and aesthetic joy. For that very reason, flowers has been used as key theme in many fields such as literature and arts. Flowers infuse unlimited inspiration to the artist and suggest endless possibilities for expression.

   As a child, I regarded floral patterns easily found in everyday goods as shabby or unsophisticated and could not understand mother’s favor in these patterns. However, as I reached in my twenties, I too had come to recognize the flowers appeal and be fond of them and ultimately became important subject in gaining sympathy with my mother.

​

   I have expressed flowers’ characteristics and images in ceramics as part of my exploration to seek communication and gain sympathy not just with my mother but with others and to the world.

   In solo exhibition 2018, flowers were painted on the clay as a drawing, inspired by traditional embroidery of Korea. Korean embroidery is traditionally a culture in which the colors and patterns are brilliant and beautiful in the households. Korea embroidery has excellent artistic features such as aesthetic sense of molding, dyeing technique and color harmony. Based on the aesthetics of embroidery, Koreans legitimacy and characteristics are expressed, and it is an excellent work that best utilized the essence and characteristics of embroidery.

   Embroidery is a culture that blends with the heart that wants to show off beautifully, and the desire to achieve the hope of those who live in that era. I have been inscribing the mind that human being wants to live long and full with enjoyment in the pattern which people wore.

 

   Among these, I make Beoseon*, which is a Korean traditional socks, representing the Korean line, as my objet of expression.

   I wanted to include day-by-day, spring, summer, autumn and winter that I felt in Beoseon. To share memories with loved ones and with the desire for happy life.

​

     * The beoseon (Korean pronunciation: [pʌ.sʌn]) is a type of paired socks worn with hanbok,

        Korean traditional clothing .

   꽃은 인간에게 감각적인, 심미적인 즐거움을 준다. 이를 연유로 꽃은 문학과 예술 등 다양한 분야에서 소재로 사용되고 있다. 꽃은 창작자에게 무한한 영감을 주며 다양한 표현 가능성을 제시해 주고 있다.

 

   유년시절의 나는 일상적인 물품들에서 쉽게 발견할 수 있는 꽃무늬들이 촌스럽게 느껴졌었고 그런 패턴들을 좋아하시는 어머니를 이해하지 못했다. 하지만 시간이 지나 나 또한 꽃의 매력을 알게 되었고, 꽃은 나와 어머니의 공감대 형성에 중요한 역할을 해주었다.

 

   나의 연구는 꽃의 상징성과 이미지를 조형적으로 표현함으로써, 어머니와의 관계에서 더 나아가 타인과 소통하고 그들과 공감대를 형성하고자 하는 나의 바람으로부터 출발한다.

   이번 2018 개인전에서는 꽃을 흙 위에 안료로 그림으로서 표현하였는데, 이 때 전통자수에서 영감을 받았다. 한국 자수는 전통적으로 담담한 색조로 물든 살림살이에서, 화려하고 고운 색조와 문양이 돋보이는 문화이다. 우리나라 자수는 미적인 조형감각, 염색 기술 및 색의 조화 등 예술성이 뛰어나다. 자수인의 심미감을 바탕으로 우리의 정통성과 특징이 표현되어 자수의 본질과 특성을 가장 잘 살린 우수한 작품이다. 

   자수는 아름답게 꾸며 뽐내고 싶은 마음과 그 시대를 살고 있는 사람들의 소망을 이루려는 염원이 어우러져 꽃피운 문화이다. 인간의 기본적 욕구이자 소망사항인 부귀를 누리며 다복하게 오래 살기를 바라는 마음을 문양에 담아 착용하던 복식 등에 새겨 두었는데, 이 중 한국적인 선을 대표하는 복식인, 버선을 나의 표현 매체로 삼고 있다.

   버선 안에 내가 느낀 하루하루, 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울을 담고 싶었다. 사랑하는 사람들과 함께한 추억을, 행복한 삶에 대한 염원과 함께 모두와 나누고자 한다.
